stratum-bound perceptivity
Cyber study group says:
I think we in Vajradhatu call this "Pure perception". This is the perception of the world that occurs in moments of TGS. It is vivid and accurate. Rnam-par-shes-pa is one of several Tibetan terms usually translated as consciousness. The equivalent Sanskrit term is vijnana. So kun-gzhi rnam-par-shes-pa is Tibetan for alaya vijnana. Unless there is a kun-gzhi which is not a state of consciousness, the two terms above would seem to be synonymous.

kun-gzhi
Guenther says:
the stratum of all and everything
Cyber study group says:
what Tulku Thondup called "the basis", I think. This is the ground of purity on which activities that lead to karma are performed.
The main point I got from all this is that BOTH "awareness/pure perception" AND "lack of awareness/concepts" occurr within the bounds of kun-gzhi , "the stratum of all and everything".
Nitartha on-line dictionary says:
kun gzhi

1) all-ground, basis of all, ground-of-all; gathering place, storehouse, ground of all (ordinary/ samsaric) experience; basis of everything, basic nature.
2) abbr. of {kun gzhi'i rnam par shes pa}, {kun gzhi rnam par shes pa}
kun gzhi
alaya - all-ground. Literally, the 'foundation of all things.' The basis of mind and both pure and impure phenomena. This word has different meanings in different contexts and should be understood accordingly. Sometimes it is synonymous with buddha nature or dharmakaya, the recognition of which is the basis for all pure phenomena; other times, as in the case of the 'ignorant all-ground,' it refers to a neutral state of dualistic mind that has not been embraced by innate wakefulness and thus is the basis for samsaric experience.
